Every year, UMD’s Center for Community Engagement, Environmental Justice, and Health (CEEJH) holds an Environmental Justice Symposium, one of the few opportunities in the region to hear from active community members and academics on confronting environmental injustice and working towards a healthier living environment.
For the last 2 years, this symposium has become much more accessible by being free and virtual. The symposium was a great opportunity to learn from folks who have fought and are still fighting for healthier air, water, and living in their communities, not just in the DMV, but around the country and across the globe. In the CMC we talk about how our data can be used and the people featured in the symposium show what is possible when a community is engaged in an environmental issue and collect community science data to back it up. The sessions are available on Youtube if you are interested in learning from the speakers who participated this year. Be sure to catch it next year too!
